Each new day we have is a gift from God, waiting to be opened and appreciated. It’s important to be intentional with how we use this gift. It is essential that we focus our attention on here and now, not worrying about tomorrow or fretting about the past (yes, I know it's not always easy). Worrying and fretting just steal our precious resource of time in the present. God wants to help us live each day without regret by trusting and resting in His care, and through appreciating our blessings.
Matthew 6:33-34 NLT, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today."
“This is the day the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 ESV
Scripture gives us countless guidelines for making the most of our time, but here are just a few of the basics:
1- Rejoice in it—thoughtfully focus on making the most of this day, by rejoicing in it and the gift that it is. Even though life can be quite difficult, we can still find reason to celebrate, by remembering that God is good, He is faithful, and He is with us. With God, this day also holds the possibility of change, and the promise of hope.
2- Appreciate it—don’t waste this day, this precious gift of time, by letting it slip away unused and unappreciated. We cannot get the time back once it has passed.
3- Invest in it—be careful and mindful of how we use and spend our time. As this day begins and we choose how to thoughtfully invest in it, we would be wise to consider these questions: Is this a good use of my day? Is it beneficial? Is this wise? Will this be a blessing to me or others, and does it honor God?
We never know what the next day holds, we only have the gift of today. So, let’s accept it, open it, appreciate it, and use it to the fullest.
“Be careful then how you live, making the most of every opportunity.” Ephesians 5:15-16
Write out a prayer asking the Lord to help you make the most of this day by rejoicing, appreciating, and investing in it.
