Our Hope of Heaven

I’m currently writing a study on the Book of Revelation. It’s a huge undertaking with promised rewards. After spending two years studying the book for myself and teaching a class on the subject, I felt a nudge in my spirit to put my observations and notes into a workbook. So far, I’ve completed the first four chapters, with six more to go (prayers are appreciated). I took the photo for the front cover even before I began writing—and of course the cover has flowers. No matter how many times I read through Revelation, I glean something new. Throughout the roller-coaster ride, Jesus is always in view, steadying our hearts whenever they start to grow faint. He gives us glimpses of our future and reminds us of the hope we have reserved for us in Heaven.

Certain images come to mind as I consider what lies before me:

I will walk through pearly gates.

I will dance on streets of gold.

I will dip my body in the crystal-clear river flowing from the Throne of grace.

I will eat the fruit of the Tree of Life.

I will experience perfect healing—body, mind, heart, and spirit.

I will bask in the light of God’s glory.

I will gaze at His glorious face.

I will praise His Name forever and ever!

And these are the hopes God has in store for you too!

For now, we cling to the hope of Heaven, when all things will be restored beyond our imagination. Faith will be fulfilled; joy will be uncontainable! God’s perfect love will completely satisfy our hearts. Peace will flood our minds. God’s justice will rule the earth.

Revelation 22:1-5, “Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. The angel said to me, ‘These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.’

7 ‘Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.’”

The main takeaway is that Jesus is coming back for His children!

  • I’d love to hear how these promises encourage you?

I took this photo on a trip to Israel in October 2019. The image captures the sun gleaming through the clouds, illuminating the Sea of Galilee below.
