Our quest for peace is often misplaced. We seek the tranquil and quiet, undisturbed and undemanding, restful and carefree—we pursue this just out-of-reach notion of what we think peace should be. At some time or another, people and circumstances will unquestionably intrude our veneer of serenity and try to shake our foundation and disrupt our peace, and far too often they succeed. So long as our peace is wrapped up in the unstable and ever-changing world around us our bliss will continue to be at risk. Our peace must be wrapped in the arms of our Ever-lasting Savior.
Our idea of peace runs contrary to what Jesus tells us. Peace is attainable not by the absence of chaos in the world, but through Jesus who overcame it for us. Peace is not the omission of tribulations; it is the Presence of Jesus in our trials!
That’s His promise! So, take heart!
John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
