Try

In my last post I shared my word for the year—Consider—and what it means to me. I asked for people to share their word for the year, and one friend responded that hers is TRY. A devotion from my book “Promise and Possibilities” came to mind, and I thought I would post it here. In the book it's titled, "Fly." Hopefully it encourages you to step out of your comfort zone and try new things with the Lord today.

If you have a word for the year, please share it with me too. I would love to write encouragement based on your word—we can all benefit from the inspiration.

Submit your word for the year in the “Connect” section at the bottom of this page.

“What if I fall?

Oh, but my darling

What if you fly?”

Recently at a barnyard-style flea market, an old wooden sign caught my eye—it had the above saying painted sweetly across. My heart skipped a beat when I read these words. They are words inspiring faith in possibility. They are words expressing hope in the promise of what could lie ahead if we just have the faith to step out and try. By overcoming our fears and reaching out beyond the horizon, we come to a place where amazing things happen. We have the option of keeping our feet firmly planted in the comfort and safety of what we know, or we can step out of the familiar into the wild blue yonder where life is vibrant and bold and takes our breath away. Jesus earnestly calls for us to step out in faith and hold onto Him all the way. If by chance we fall, He is right there to catch us. And if we indeed fly, He will undoubtedly soar with us to unimaginable new heights. Either way, He’s present with us. Whether we fall or fly, we’ve stepped out in faith. There is no failure in faith or belief or trying. If we never try, we’ll never know all that’s possible. So, let’s give God our fear, stretch our wings wide, and step out in faith and fly.

James 2:22, You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.”

Is there something the Lord is calling you to step out in faith and stretch your wings for? Ask Him to help you fly.
