Things Above

Colossians 3:1-4, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.”

These four verses hold significant insight into who Christ is, who I am in relation to Him, and how that knowledge should affect my life. These verses encourage me to “set my heart and mind on things above”—to keep a heavenly perspective, to hold onto my eternal hope, and to live my life in light of my relationship with Jesus. These verses remind me that Christ has been raised from the dead to glory and that He is now sovereignly seated in the heavenly realms at the right hand of God. They remind me that I have been raised with Christ and that my life is hidden and wrapped up in Him; they offer me the assured hope that my faithful Lord is coming back for me someday. These verses exhort me to focus my heart and mind on heavenly things, not the things of this world that often press in and surround me. These Scriptures kindle my confidence and help me push onward as I remember my future reward—I am promised I will be with my Savior in glory.

How do these verses encourage you to press on and persevere?
