I was a guest on a wonderful podcast this week!

I first connected with Kathryn May on LinkedIn last Spring. We share a love for the Lord and a passion for helping others grow to their full potential as children of God. She shared her role as a Transformational Coach with me, and I shared my Bible studies and devotional books with her. Over the months we kept in contact online and finally put a date on the calendar for a face-to-face meeting over Zoom. She graciously invited me to be a guest on her podcast: "Freed to Lead."

Our first real meeting was recorded for the world to see and hear. Yes, the podcast is truly unrehearsed and authentic.

Our encounters had been limited up to this point, and I really had no idea what to expect. I didn't know what questions she'd ask or what topics we discuss. I didn't know how to prepare in advance but after praying I decided to just show up and be me. I knew God would guide our conversation, and my only hope was for Him to be honored and anyone who listens to be blessed. But I can honestly say that I was blessed and inspired by our conversation!

I'm happy to say, I now have a new friend.

We never know who God is going to bring into our life and how He is going to do it. This is proof that we need to be (wisely) open to friendships that God wants to bless us with.

I encourage you to watch or listen to our conversation. Kathryn's voice is calming and reassuring, and her words are wise.

The following is a quote from host, Kathryn May:

"Have you ever had a season where you open your Bible… and the words just don’t land?

You love God, you believe His promises — but lately, He feels quiet and you have no idea what He’s trying to tell you through the noise of distraction.

You try to pray, but your mind wanders.

You try to get in the Word, but you feel numb and the words seem to fall flat.

I’ve been there too.

There was a time I was doing all that I knew to do — going to church, serving, reading, even praying for others — but inside, I felt spiritually dry.

I didn’t realize it then, but I was treating my time with God like a checklist instead of a conversation.

It was transactional. Like… “God, I’m here. Now speak. And oh, by the way, I need this, this, and that.”

It was as if I were forcing Him to be on my time clock — expecting Him to jump when I said so.

And of course, it was discouraging to feel so distant and dry. I didn’t realize I was acting this way. I was just doing what I thought I was supposed to do.

“If I show up like this, then God has to show up in response… right?”

But I got to a place where I thought, If I’m working this hard, showing up, doing all the things, and still feeling so empty — what’s the point?

Why keep trying so hard?

I actually asked God this question directly.

And you know what He said?

“You don’t need more discipline — you need more intimacy.”

That one sentence changed everything."

And that’s exactly what this week’s Freed to Lead Podcast episode is all about.

I sat down with my friend Tracy Hill — author, women’s ministry leader, and host of the Be Blessed & Inspired Podcast — to talk about what it really means to get back in the Word when you feel distant from God and like nothing’s ‘working.’

We talk about:

  • Why doing all the right things can still leave you feeling empty

  • How to make Scripture come alive again in your daily rhythm

  • The difference between seeking clarity and seeking Him

  • And why getting in the Word isn’t about performance — it’s about presence

  • If you’ve been craving connection…

  • If your Bible has felt more like a burden than a lifeline…

This conversation will remind you that God isn’t far away — He’s right there, waiting to meet you in His Word. God isn’t asking for perfection… He’s inviting you back into presence."
