Faith and trust and focus and peace all go hand-in-hand.
Circumstances and people do not have to dictate whether we have peace or not. Peace is available to us apart from these. Peace is attainable by focusing our eyes on God, by redirecting our minds onto His Word, and filling our hearts with the knowledge of His extravagant love. Peace comes when we reflect on His promises, His faithfulness, and His goodness to us.
Even when things are in chaos and life seems out of sorts, even then peace is possible still. The peace of God within us is not circumstantial; it is rooted, anchored, and built on who we know God our Heavenly Father to be—He is good and perfect, righteous and just, kind and merciful, gracious and loving beyond belief. He is mighty and powerful, awesome and great. He is personal and close-up. Peace becomes ours when we reflect on God’s character and remember His enduring Presence throughout our lives, and when we trust that His plans for us are good.
Even when we don’t see clearly or understand what God is up to, we can assuredly believe and trust that it is something extraordinarily good. In this way, peace that surpasses all our human understanding becomes ours to claim.
When we trust God and our focus is stayed on Him, peace then becomes our restful state of mind.
Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
